[Freeport, IL – August 21, 2024] –The Foundation for Northwest Illinois staff and board gathered with nearly 130 guests at the Celebration Gala, the launch of its 50th anniversary year, while honoring local organizations for their strategic work in economic development.
The Craig Wilson Rural Vitality Award was given in honor and memory of Northwest Illinois resident, Craig Wilson, well-known for his devotion to agriculture and the economic well-being of the region. This year, the award was presented to the Lena Business & Professional Association for their ongoing work empowering and elevating local businesses, particularly in their efforts to develop programs to increase local revenue during the 2023 shopping season.
The Matthew A Marvin Community Impact Award was given in honor and memory of local businessman and philanthropist, Matt Marvin, who understood the value of being involved and giving back to his community. This year, the award was presented to two organizations, the Greater Freeport Partnership and Northwest Illinois Economic Development, for their investment in entrepreneurial growth and development programs in their respective counties.

Other announcements at the Celebration Gala included the reveal of the Northwest Illinois Strategic Vision: 2025-2029 and the newly launched Jane Addams Legacy Fund which enriches our region by addressing the unique needs of women and the issues they face. Granting from this fund is for nonprofits organizations with programs and projects addressing economic mobility, leadership, health & well-being, and equity & social justice to further support, elevate, and empower Northwest Illinois women.
