THE FOUNDATION FOR NORTHWEST ILLINOIS

The Jane Addams Center, a core pillar of The Foundation for Northwest Illinois, serves as a hub for regional empowerment by driving initiatives in civic health and philanthropic granting. Inspired by the legacy of social reformer Jane Addams, the Center strengthens communities across Stephenson, Jo Daviess, and Carroll counties by equipping local leaders and funding targeted solutions.

Civic Health

The Jane Addams Center fosters regional well-being, trust, and democratic engagement by promoting equitable community participation.

East of West Initiatives

Programs designed to bridge regional divides, examining community impact across geographic borders to deliver equitable services where they are most needed.

Emerging Leadership Network (ELN)

A dynamic platform for personal growth, networking, and community engagement. It prepares the next generation of professional leaders through roundtables, discussion groups, and board readiness training.

Jane Addams Legacy Fund

This targeted granting arm enriches the region by supporting nonprofits that address the unique challenges faced by local women and girls. Funding is allocated across four critical focus areas: economic mobility, leadership development, health and well-being, and social justice.

Jane Club

A collective giving circle inspired by the original workingwoman’s cooperative at Hull House. Members pool their philanthropic resources to back nonprofit programs while gathering for educational events and social conversations led by inspiring leaders.

Jane Addams Legacy Award

An annual celebration that honors outstanding local women who mirror Jane Addams’ spirit of moral courage and self-sacrifice. The award recognizes visionary thinkers and leaders who have made a profound, lasting difference in the lives of others across Northwest Illinois.
