FREEPORT, IL – February 3, 2026 – The Foundation for Northwest Illinois is proud to announce an historic milestone in its leadership. Samantha Schaible has been named the new President of the Board of Directors, marking the first time in the organization’s history that the board is led by a resident of Jo Daviess County.

“We are thrilled to welcome Samantha Schaible as our board president,” said Michelle DeHaven Quast, CEO of The Foundation for Northwest Illinois. “Having our first president from Jo Daviess County is a significant moment for us. It reflects our mission to be a truly regional partner, ensuring that every corner of Northwest Illinois has a voice in how we build stronger, more resilient communities in our region.”

The Foundation also celebrates the tenure of outgoing President Matt Moyer, who will continue his dedicated service to the organization in the role of Past President. Under Moyer’s leadership, the Foundation saw significant growth in community impact and regional outreach.

“Matt Moyer has been a pillar of stability and vision for this Foundation,” Quast noted. “We are incredibly grateful for his service as President and are fortunate that we will continue to benefit from his expertise and institutional knowledge as he transitions to the role of Past President.”

In addition to the transition in executive leadership, the Foundation is pleased to welcome Doreen O’Brien, owner of the popular Freeport-based establishment Big O’s on the Hollow, as its newest elected board member. O’Brien brings a wealth of local business experience, a depth of knowledge and expertise in the field of public health, and a deep commitment to the vitality of the Northwest Illinois region.

“Doreen O’Brien is a fantastic addition to our team. As a small business owner who is deeply embedded in the fabric of Northwest Illinois, she brings a practical, community-first perspective that is essential to our work. We look forward to the energy and insight she will provide.”

The Foundation is pleased to announce that Victoria Hansen has been appointed Vice President, while Drew Broge will assume the responsibilities of Treasurer. The Foundation also extends its sincere gratitude to Kim Rampenthal and Jenny Blocker, who are departing from the Board of Directors. Their many years of dedicated service and leadership have left an indelible mark on the organization and the communities it serves.

As the Foundation enters this new era of leadership, it remains steadfast in its mission to inspire donors and empower community partners for a stronger Northwest Illinois. From an expanding focus on the nonprofit sector while fostering community development, the Foundation serves as a catalyst for positive change across the region. Through managing permanent endowments and facilitating strategic grantmaking, the organization ensures that every gift—large or small—creates a lasting legacy of growth and well-being for the families and communities of Northwest Illinois.
