That’s us. Ye olde Freeport Community Foundation is now going by a shiny, new handle.
And as Shakespeare said, “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose, by any other name would smell as sweet,” and we agree.
As The Foundation for Northwest Illinois, we are still mindful of our heritage, first as the Freeport Community Trust and then as the Freeport Community Foundation.
As The Foundation for Northwest Illinois, we will continue to serve – as we’ve done since our inception in 1975 – the nonprofits and residents of Stephenson, Jo Daviess, and Carroll Counties, but, hopefully, with significantly less confusion centered around our name.
As The Foundation for Northwest Illinois, our home-base is still Freeport, but will continue to grow our staff and organizational involvement in activities and organizations throughout our region.
As The Foundation for Northwest Illinois, we will continue to provide nonprofits throughout our region, and some based outside yet benefiting our regional communities, with granting opportunities from both our unrestricted Marvin – Wilson annual grants cycle, not to mention other opportunities through our various restricted funds. And we hope to grow those opportunities through new legacy gifts, endowed restricted funds, and even scholarships from residents throughout Stephenson, Jo Daviess, and Carroll counties.
As The Foundation for Northwest Illinois, we will continue to support our nonprofits with educational programming via NINA, the Northwest Illinois Nonprofit Alliance, focusing on the latest tools and techniques to empower our nonprofits with the latest in nonprofit management.
As The Foundation for Northwest Illinois, we will continue to be Board lead and Board driven, striving to be a malleable organization seeking out opportunities that will benefit our region’s nonprofits and residents while simultaneously melding with our mission of “empowering nonprofits” throughout Northwest Illinois and always working toward our vision of “an improved quality of life for everyone”.
As The Foundation for Northwest Illinois, we will continue to hire staff with first-hand experience in the nonprofit sector and build on their years of experience with the latest in industry related educational opportunities.
As Foundation for Northwest Illinois, we will continue to work synergistically with our Foundation peers through organizations like the Alliance of Illinois Community Foundations, the Council of Foundations, CF Leads, and others.
As Foundation for Northwest Illinois, we will continue to be here for the residents of Northwest Illinois – be it a specific nonprofit, a collective of concerned citizens, a family or individual wishing to plan a legacy gift, a school or organization wanting to establish a scholarship, a community leader wanting to learn more about Foundations, nonprofits, and the significant role they play in our regional, state, and national economy, or simply someone looking for a way to get more involved.
